Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies is a multidisciplinary area of research exploring how gender and sexuality function as fundamental frameworks within social systems, cultural norms, economic structures, and political organizations, as well as in people's daily experiences and creative expressions. With a focus on historical context and global viewpoints, UMBC's Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies program analyzes how gender and sexuality intersect with other social categories such as socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, national identity, age, and disability to reveal underlying power dynamics. Our program inspires students to envision equitable societies and provides them with the skills to collaboratively bring about meaningful change.
