The MS and PhD programs in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources bring together faculty from multiple schools including Food and Agriculture, Marine Sciences, Biology and Ecology, Economics, and Engineering. This interdisciplinary graduate program prepares students for careers in aquaculture industries or advanced academic pursuits. The degrees emphasize biological and physical sciences while offering specialized training in aquatic health, nutrition, production systems, engineering, food technology, social sciences, and economic policy. Our faculty represent diverse expertise in engineering, pathology, physiology, nutrition, seafood processing, and ecological modeling. Their research spans numerous aquatic species such as cod, halibut, salmon, trout, various shellfish, sea urchins, sea horses, abalone, seaweed, and lobsters. Students have access to comprehensive research facilities on the Orono campus and at off-site locations including the Aquaculture Research Center, Matthew Highlands Pilot Plant, Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research, and the Marine Science Field Station at Downeast Institute.
