Our undergraduate program offers students a foundational sequence in wildlife ecology and management, complemented by coursework in core sciences, natural resource management, mathematics, and liberal arts to earn a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology. The curriculum is structured to fulfill certification requirements for wildlife or fisheries biologists through The Wildlife Society or American Fisheries Society. Emphasizing hands-on learning, we leverage Maine's diverse ecosystems for immersive instruction. While many students aim for careers as wildlife biologists, ecologists, or conservation professionals, the program also supports specialized interests through electives in areas like environmental education, forestry, or global conservation. Undergraduates can engage in faculty-guided research via the University of Maine's Honors Program or departmental independent study initiatives. Recognizing the value of practical experience, the Department actively helps students secure internships and professional opportunities. With a robust wildlife research program, students gain exposure to innovative practices in ecology and management, opening doors to employment and research involvement.
