The Department of Chemistry provides undergraduate programs culminating in Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Given chemistry's foundational role across numerous disciplines, the curriculum allows significant flexibility in elective choices, enabling students to tailor their studies to personal interests or career goals. These customized paths may include pre-medical tracks, health profession preparation, technical communication, business management, or computer science integration. Additional guidance on personalized academic planning can be obtained from the department chair. Students pursuing the B.S. in chemistry can select between two pathways: the standard B.S. degree or the ACS-certified B.S. degree.
The Non-certified B.S. Degree option serves as an ideal choice for pre-medical students, pre-veterinary candidates, pharmacy aspirants, or those pursuing dual majors. This flexible program permits students to select relevant electives that align with medical school requirements, veterinary studies, healthcare professions, environmental science careers, or pharmaceutical industry roles. Additionally, students may incorporate business, legal studies, computer science, materials science, or other complementary subjects into their chemistry education.
