The Bachelor of Science in Animal and Veterinary Sciences (AVS) equips students for various career paths, including veterinary or medical school admission, secondary school science teaching, agricultural technical sales and service, animal research careers, or establishing livestock operations like dairy, equine, or cattle farms. Approximately 20% of AVS graduates enroll in veterinary or medical programs, with our program's strong reputation contributing to this high acceptance rate. Students can choose between the core Animal Sciences track or specialize in either Equine Sciences or Pre-Veterinary Sciences. The Pre-Veterinary concentration covers essential coursework for North American veterinary school admissions. A key feature of the AVS program is its emphasis on practical experience with commercially significant domestic animals. At the J.F. Witter Teaching and Research Center, AVS students gain extensive hands-on training in managing dairy cows, sheep, and standardbred horses. We view this experiential learning as fundamental to our students' development, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world farming challenges.
