A biology major opens doors to understanding the complexities of the natural world. Those who choose this path can enter diverse fields including biotechnology, environmental science, medical professions, research, education, regulatory work, and private consulting. The curriculum examines life at multiple scales - from cellular processes to whole organisms - while covering evolutionary theory, ecological relationships, and biodiversity. Hands-on research opportunities let students contribute to solving real-world challenges in healthcare, food production, and environmental conservation.
While both B.S. and B.A. degrees establish solid biological foundations, the B.S. incorporates more intensive coursework in mathematics and physical sciences, making it ideal for pre-professional tracks and technical careers. The B.A. offers greater flexibility for combining with humanities or social science disciplines, including international studies. Specialized concentrations are available: Pre-Medical Studies for B.S. candidates and Ecology for either degree path. Both programs also allow students to complement their studies with a Neuroscience minor.
