The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences provides graduate programs culminating in M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geological Sciences. Research conducted within the department receives funding through grants and contracts from organizations such as NSF, DOE, NASA, PRF, along with various federal, state, and industrial partners. Graduate research opportunities span diverse fields including natural hazards (seismic activity, slope failures, flooding), environmental geology, groundwater studies, climate dynamics, structural geology, sedimentology, geophysical investigations, geological engineering, planetary studies, isotopic geochemistry, fossil research, strategic mineral resources, landscape evolution, age-dating techniques, karst systems research, among other specialties.
