At UK, biological anthropology centers on how humans interact with their environment, influencing both population and individual health across different locations and historical periods. Taking a biocultural approach, we consider the adaptive environment in all its dimensions—natural, social, and cultural. Those studying biological anthropology will integrate theories and methods from biological, cultural, and archaeological anthropology to explore human wellbeing in modern, historical, and ancient populations, as reflected in health and nutrition data. With UK faculty research aligning with contemporary anthropological and social science themes, students gain distinctive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across anthropology's subfields.
