The Biochemistry graduate program welcomes students from various academic backgrounds with broad interests. Those holding bachelor's degrees in biological sciences, biochemistry, or physical sciences who aspire to research careers in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or structural biology are strongly encouraged to apply. A foundation in calculus, physics, biology, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry is advised. Admission occurs through the Integrated Biomedical Sciences program.
The Molecular & Cellular Biochemistry Department in the College of Medicine offers graduate studies tailored for careers in academia, industry, and government research. Participants can engage in faculty-led investigations spanning diverse areas such as cellular signaling, protein analysis, gene regulation, cytoskeletal studies, membrane processes, disease pathology (including cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders), pharmaceutical development, nucleic acid research, and membrane biology. The curriculum provides comprehensive training in contemporary biochemistry through seminar participation, journal discussions, research presentations, scholar interactions, and opportunities to showcase findings at professional conferences.
