At UK, biological anthropology centers on studying how humans interact with their environment and how this relationship influences both population and individual health across different locations and historical periods. Taking a biocultural approach, we consider the adaptive environment in all its dimensions—natural, social, and cultural. Those studying biological anthropology will integrate theories and methods from biological, cultural, and archaeological anthropology to explore human well-being in modern, historical, and ancient populations, as reflected in health and nutrition indicators. With UK faculty research aligning with key themes in anthropology and social sciences, students gain distinctive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across anthropological subfields.
