Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary area that utilizes engineering principles and design approaches to enhance the integration of engineering with medicine and biology, aiming to advance human health and address healthcare issues. The curriculum starts with the First-Year Engineering program, providing students with fundamental engineering coursework. Upon achieving Engineering Standing, students commence required biomedical engineering (BME) classes. The program concludes with a distinctive two-semester interdisciplinary Capstone Senior Design project, where students innovatively develop solutions to healthcare challenges presented by industry or healthcare collaborators. Courses in BME and product design, co-developed and instructed by BME and College of Design faculty, embed Design Thinking into students' problem-solving methods for healthcare issues, serving as the core of the BME major.
