The Jewish Studies Program provides both a Bachelor of Arts major and minor option, along with Departmental Honors opportunities through research papers or service learning. The program features classes in Jewish Studies, Hebrew, and Yiddish, while also collaborating with other departments—particularly Religious Studies—to offer additional courses. Key areas of study include Judaic scholarship, cultural identities, language and storytelling traditions, historical and archaeological research, as well as practical engagement with Jewish community organizations.
Graduates earning a B.A. in Jewish Studies will gain foundational knowledge for advanced studies in fields like Religious Studies, History, and Political Science, as well as specialized training for theological, rabbinical, or cantorial programs. This degree also equips students for enrollment at Jewish educational institutions such as Chicago's Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership.
Admission will be granted to students who meet the following standard:
A minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for all previous coursework, including transfer coursework.
English Proficiency:
TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition: 79 (18 minimum subscore)
TOEFL paper-delivered test: 60 (18 minimum subscore)
IELTS: 6.5 (6.0 minimum subscore)
PTE Academic: 53
