The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering fosters academic excellence and innovative research by encouraging strong faculty-student collaboration and offering customized programs to meet each student's unique requirements.
With guidance from their chosen advisor, students design personalized academic plans that adhere to the Graduate College's general policies and departmental standards. The department actively collaborates across disciplines with other University of Iowa units, particularly Physics and Astronomy, Computer Science (Liberal Arts and Sciences), Biomedical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (College of Engineering), and the Carver College of Medicine. Key research and study concentrations encompass medical imaging analysis, signal and image processing, control systems theory, wireless communication technologies, wave propagation and materials, computer systems architecture, and computational genomics.
