Electrical engineering applies scientific and mathematical concepts to design, build, and manage structures, machines, processes, and systems. Historically, electrical engineers have profoundly influenced daily life through innovations like electrical power generation, contemporary electronics, computing devices, digital communication networks, advanced aviation controls, robotic production systems, and medical diagnostic equipment. Pursuing electrical engineering education still offers chances to address socially important challenges and enhance living standards. UNLV's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering boasts state-of-the-art resources for graduate studies and research in this field. Our faculty members possess extensive expertise across various electrical engineering specialties, such as telecommunications, computer systems, control mechanisms, electromagnetic fields and optical technologies, electronic circuits, energy distribution networks, data analysis techniques, and semiconductor components. UNLV fosters close student-faculty collaboration, enabling customized academic programs and research initiatives aligned with individual interests.

Qualification Requirements

Have a regionally accredited or equivalent Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or a closely related discipline.
Applicants who possess a bachelor's degree in a closely related discipline, such as physics or mathematics, may be admitted on conditional and/or provisional status. These students will be required to complete certain undergraduate and/or graduate courses before they can attain regular status. The graduate committee determines these courses on an individual basis.

Graduates with degrees in engineering technology ordinarily have an inadequate background to be admitted to the graduate program.

Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 (A=4.00) for their bachelor's degree. Applicants who have an overall GPA below 3.00 must submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores {scaled score and percentile score in quantitative, verbal reasoning, and analytical writing} to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. These applicants may be admitted subject to the discretion and possible further requirements of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Graduate Committee. Applicants who want to be considered for an assistantship, or who feel that their GRE scores will enhance their chances for admission, are strongly encouraged to submit GRE scores.

Transcripts - One transcript from every post-secondary institution the applicant has attended (regardless of whether a degree or credential was earned), showing all coursework, extension and correspondence work, any degrees earned, and the dates that those degrees were awarded. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted as part of the application process. However, if an applicant is admitted, official transcripts will be required by the date specified on the Certificate of Admission. Transfer credits posted on another institution's transcript will not be accepted in lieu of the transcript itself. Only transcripts sent directly from the institution are considered official. Failure to disclose all coursework and/or degrees awarded will result in rescission of admission. IELTS - 6.5, TOEFL - 80, (Paper-based) Minimum score - 74 (Computer-based) Minimum score - 213, Pearson Test of English (PTE) - Minimum score - 65
