The MA program in Spanish offers two specialization tracks: literature, focusing on literary analysis skills and comprehensive study of key Spanish literary works, or linguistics, emphasizing linguistic analysis techniques and foundational knowledge of Spanish linguistics subfields.
Graduates will show fundamental comprehension of primary sources in three distribution areas including: Spanish phonology, syntax theories, applied linguistics, language history, acquisition, sociolinguistics (linguistics track) or medieval through contemporary Spanish/Spanish American literature, U.S. Latina/o/x works, Brazilian/Portuguese literature, and Latin American film (literature track).

Qualification Requirements
Applicants to the Master of Arts program must have completed the equivalent of an undergraduate Spanish major with at least a 3.00 grade point average in courses for the major. In addition, for applicants to the M.A. in Spanish Linguistics, previous coursework in linguistics is strongly recommended.
Three (3) letters of recommendation: These should be from faculty who know your academic record. MFA applicants can also get letters from writers familiar with your creative work.
