The MA program assists students in developing and demonstrating expert-level content knowledge relevant to their chosen professional track (either educational leadership or higher education and student affairs). This specialized knowledge corresponds with and builds upon the established professional standards for master's degree attainment in these disciplines. The Educational Policy and Leadership Studies MA program, with its educational leadership concentration, mandates completion of at least 36 semester hours of graduate-level coursework. Participants must maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA in their major courses as required by the Graduate College.
This curriculum equips graduates for leadership roles such as school principalships and positions within regional education agencies or state education departments. Successful completion fulfills both the requirements for a master's degree and qualifies candidates for Iowa's pre-K12 principal certification and special education supervisor endorsement (State of Iowa endorsement code 189). To qualify for these Iowa state endorsements, candidates must possess a minimum of three years of pre-K12 teaching experience.
A U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or an equivalent degree from another country as determined by the Office of Admissions with a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00.
