The Graduate Certificate program requires 21 credit-hours of coursework, featuring a six credit-hour year-long internship guided by a principal-mentor and university supervisor. Candidates pursuing a North Carolina principal level I license must also develop an electronic portfolio containing relevant artifacts and evidence to showcase their competency across all seven school executive standards. This 21 credit-hour curriculum, including courses and internship, aligns with the North Carolina State Board of Education's Standards for School Executives and meets all other necessary requirements.
The Add-on Licensure Program is a 21 credit-hour course sequence designed for educators with a master's degree in an education-related field from a regionally accredited institution and North Carolina M level certification. Upon finishing this 21-hour program, participants qualify for recommendation for licensure area 012 Level I (Principal). Applicants must possess three years of successful teaching or relevant school experience. Successful completion results in the UNC Charlotte Graduate School awarding a Graduate Certificate in School Administration.
