Those who study history learn to pose difficult questions and examine both past and present with a critical eye. How did our current world—with its social structures, political systems, economic models, and cultural diversity—come to be? What historical roots underlie today's pressing issues? What insights can we gain from how earlier civilizations addressed their own dilemmas? Through exploring these questions, students acquire lifelong analytical skills.

With history's global scope, students cultivate a worldwide perspective that helps them understand communities from Iowa City to Berlin to Nairobi. Employers appreciate history graduates' capacity to assess human behavior, investigate complex issues, and articulate ideas effectively.
