The University of Indianapolis' health and physical education (HPE) program equips students to teach in K-12 schools. Starting in your first semester of education classes, you'll gain hands-on classroom experience while learning teaching methods in motor skills development, communication, evaluation, teamwork, and technology integration. The School of Education collaborates with the Exercise Science Program to provide a distinctive dual-degree opportunity, resulting in both a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Transition to Teaching Certificate, achievable within 4.5 years.
For PE Health teaching certification across all grade levels, students must fulfill the combined Exercise Science/HPED and Transition to Teaching curriculum requirements. Program graduates can then pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching by completing just six additional credit hours.
UIndy's HPE program boasts a strong reputation for producing highly qualified educators with exceptional job placement success. Recent program graduates have maintained a perfect 100% pass rate on the Praxis II teacher certification exam.
