The Master of Science (MS) in Statistics offers comprehensive education in both theoretical and practical statistics, including hands-on experience through consulting or collaborative research projects, along with focused studies in specialized areas. This program equips graduates for professional roles as statisticians, enhances research capabilities for those pursuing doctorates in other disciplines, and strengthens the quantitative foundation for students aiming for PhD programs in statistics or related fields. Completion requires 32-36 credit hours (8-9 courses) beyond prerequisite coursework. Unlike some programs, this MS does not mandate a thesis. All degree plans must receive approval from the Graduate Advisor prior to conferral.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must have earned at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college in the United States or a comparable degree from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A=4.0), or comparable GPA for an international applicant, for last two years of undergraduate study is a minimum requirement for admission. Graduate work in Statistics requires a strong undergraduate background in mathematics and statistics as well as experience with computing and data. The Department of Statistics requires a minimum TOEFL PBT score of 590, a minimum TEOFL CBT score of 243, a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 92 or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 for admission.
