The Master of Music Education with Licensure (MMEL) Program caters to individuals holding undergraduate or graduate degrees in music disciplines outside of music education, aiming to fulfill the qualifications for Illinois K-12 Music teaching certification. This curriculum combines graduate-level coursework with studies in general education, professional teaching methods, music theory, and music pedagogy. MMEL participants must also undertake Early Field Experience and Student Teaching assignments as part of their training.

Requirements for admission to the Master of Music (MM) programs are a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or an equivalent degree from another accredited institution. TOEFL - 96 IBT , IELTS - 7 must have a score of 6.5 or higher in all sub-sections. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A=4.0), or comparable GPA for an international applicant, for last two years of undergraduate study is a minimum requirement for admission.
