The Department of Anthropology provides MA and PhD programs along with professional education in Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, and Sociocultural and Linguistic Anthropology. We don't offer a standalone MA program, and students don't need a master's degree to progress in the doctoral program. Most graduate students earn their MA while pursuing their PhD, as the master's often serves as a stepping stone toward the doctorate or helps students apply anthropological knowledge to other disciplines. Additionally, our Department features a graduate minor in Museum Studies and collaborates with the Medical Scholars Program, enabling students to pursue both a Ph.D. in Anthropology and an M.D. degree. While Archaeology may be an exception, the Department typically doesn't grant terminal M.A. degrees. Students can request an M.A. during their doctoral studies if needed.
