The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures provides graduate programs for both Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in German. Students can pursue additional specializations in Cultural Studies and Interpretive Research or focus on Medieval Studies. Those working toward a Ph.D. in German also have the option to earn a Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education certification (SLATE Certificate).Our institution provides M.A. and Ph.D. programs in German Studies, along with a combined 5-Year BA/MA option for University of Illinois undergraduates. Additionally, we offer Bachelor of Arts in Teaching and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees. The program caters to those aiming for academic careers as well as students seeking non-academic professional paths after graduation. Qualification Requirements

Applicants should have completed undergraduate studies similar to the concentration in German at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, have a grade point average of 3.0 (A = 4.0) for the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework, and be able to follow lectures in the German language. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and must score at least 79 on the internet-based test (iBT).
