The Sciences and Letters Program in Geology (BSLAS), offered by the Department of Geology, provides students with a more adaptable academic path compared to the Specialized Geology and Geophysics Curriculum. This program suits those seeking a broader educational foundation in geology for careers in diverse fields like anthropology, business, mineral economics, urban planning, journalism, law, sales, or information science. While it doesn't automatically qualify students for graduate studies in geological sciences, those interested can supplement their studies with additional mathematics, chemistry, and physics courses matching the Specialized Curriculum's requirements. Participants must select one of these focus areas: Geology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, or Earth Science Education. The Earth Science Education track specifically prepares students to teach earth science at the high school level.
