The Atmospheric Science program in the Science and Letters Curriculum equips students for diverse careers across meteorology, environmental studies, climate research, remote sensing, science education, atmospheric chemistry, computational science, and related fields. This flexible program is designed to align with each student's academic objectives, professional ambitions in atmospheric sciences, and personal interests in the discipline. All participants gain solid grounding in mathematics, physics, and chemistry while acquiring valuable data analysis and computational skills applicable both within and beyond atmospheric sciences. Through elective courses, students can focus on specialized areas of interest. Graduates with a B.S. in Atmospheric Science find career opportunities in government agencies (such as NOAA's National Weather Service, NASA, EPA, DOD, and DOE), private sector companies, and academic institutions for those pursuing advanced degrees. The program culminates with senior-year capstone experiences involving independent study, internships, or research projects, with research-focused students particularly encouraged to undertake investigative projects. The undergraduate curriculum, available here, follows the American Meteorological Society's current guidelines - the premier professional organization for U.S. atmospheric scientists and meteorologists - which outline essential competencies for graduates entering the workforce or pursuing graduate studies.
