This concentration fosters comprehensive knowledge of political science while allowing focused exploration of specialized disciplines. The University of Illinois structures its political science curriculum across five key domains: American Government, Policy Studies, Cross-National Politics, Political Philosophy, and Global Affairs. These specialized tracks each examine distinct aspects of governance and political processes. As students progress through advanced coursework, they develop interdisciplinary connections between concepts and theories across these domains.
Every specialization offers an introductory survey course, intermediate options, and upper-division classes (numbered 300-400). Students typically complete the introductory course in a given specialization before enrolling in its advanced offerings.
