The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in dance caters to students seeking interdisciplinary artistic exploration and the opportunity to combine dance studies with another academic discipline. Unlike the intensive studio-focused BFA program, the BA offers greater flexibility, allowing students to tailor their educational path. The curriculum emphasizes three fundamental dance components: physical training, creative development, and theoretical studies. Students select an additional concentration—such as theater, music, anthropology, business, visual arts, environmental studies, film, gender studies, or cultural studies—through either a formal minor/major or a customized elective sequence approved by dance faculty. In their final year, students complete a capstone project under faculty guidance, integrating their dance training with their secondary focus. Admission to the BFA program requires an audition, while BA candidates submit a study proposal by their second year outlining their dual focus plans. Transfer students must demonstrate technical proficiency but may request direct BA program entry. Graduates will: Master physical and performance techniques, Apply anatomical and somatic principles, Collaborate creatively across disciplines, Produce integrative capstone work, Articulate dance concepts through multiple communication methods, and Demonstrate innovative thinking with professional initiative.
