The Advanced Standing program offers face-to-face, hybrid, and online enrollment options. The face-to-face AS program is a full-time, one-year commitment (38 semester credit hours), starting in fall and concluding with coursework and field placements over two semesters. Hybrid and online AS students follow a part-time, two-year schedule. All advanced standing students must complete two field practicum courses (500 clock hours). Enrollment model tabs provide detailed plans for each option.
Clinical Practice involves applying theories, techniques, skills, values, and ethical principles to improve cognitive, emotional, behavioral, physical, and social wellness across individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities. This practice demands leadership in advancing social, economic, and political equity, employing approaches that are relationship-based, culturally aware, context-specific, and strength-oriented. It encompasses biopsychosocial understanding and research-backed interventions, including (but not restricted to) evaluation and treatment, diagnosis and therapy, education and prevention, advocacy, counseling and psychotherapy, as well as supervision and consultation.
The Individualized Specialization aligns with the GCSW's mission to champion progressive approaches for social, economic, and political equity while providing student flexibility. Participants develop a customized focus area in social work that isn't addressed by existing specializations, concentrating on specific populations, social challenges, or practice domains. This specialization allows students to tailor their studies through GCSW courses and cross-disciplinary offerings.
