The University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work collaborates with the Hobby Center for Public Policy to provide a dual-degree program designed to equip students for careers in social welfare policy. This combined program integrates the MPP's data-driven policy analysis methods with the MSW's hands-on training in health and human services policy.

Prospective students must gain independent admission to each program. Applications to the second program must be submitted before completing the first year of the initial program. Full-time students typically finish both degrees' coursework in about three years.

Each program includes mandatory internship components, which can be fulfilled by completing the Graduate College of Social Work's field practicum requirements.
