The Physiological Optics/Vision Science Graduate Program offers comprehensive training in the study of human and animal visual systems. Designed with adaptability in mind, the curriculum allows students to specialize in their chosen research areas. Participants will work directly with faculty mentors investigating various aspects of vision - from normal function to diseases and disorders affecting the eye and visual pathways. The program emphasizes developing therapeutic interventions to preserve vision, employing diverse methodologies spanning molecular, cellular, behavioral, and optical approaches. With 31 faculty members representing varied academic disciplines and 40 enrolled graduate students, the program fosters a rich collaborative environment.

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS) or an undergraduate Engineering degree from an accredited academic or professional institution comparable to the degrees awarded at the University of Houston in biological or physical sciences and engineering, or a BS or doctorate (or equivalent) degree in optometry or medicine.

\A grade point average of B (3.00) or above in all previous college-level or higher work with particular attention being given to science courses.

The minimum TOEFL score required is 79 for the internet-based test.
The minimum TOEFL score for the paper-based (pBT) exam is 550 or higher.
The minimum TOEFL score for the new revised paper-based exam is: Reading 20, Listening 20, and Writing 20.
The minimum IELTS score required is an overall score of a 6.5.
