The Sculpture Program serves as an open creative hub deeply intertwined with Houston's thriving arts scene. With a four-decade legacy of influencing Southeast Texas' artistic landscape, we approach contemporary sculpture as a fluid, thoughtful discipline that continuously explores innovative concepts and expressions. This is achieved by fostering hands-on creation through well-equipped workshops in two campus buildings, while also encouraging students to investigate transient and imaginative dimensions of the field through seminars such as Art & Magic and Dirt.
Career Paths
Our most passionate alumni build thriving careers creating and showcasing artwork. For these practitioners, the BFA marks just the start of an enduring journey in the arts, as they develop independent studios and launch professional trajectories. These graduates evolve into influential artists who enrich contemporary dialogues and enhance cultural vibrancy in Houston and other major art hubs.
Our alumni pursue advanced degrees in studio arts and arts management, working in museums, galleries, and non-profit organizations, while others enter art-adjacent fields like fabrication, conservation, digital documentation, and exhibition design. Some BFA recipients complete teaching credentials through the College of Education for public school positions, while those aiming for collegiate teaching typically pursue MA or MFA degrees first.
