The B.F.A. Acting Program mentors a carefully chosen group of 16 students through a comprehensive curriculum that blends acting, voice and speech training, movement, stage and screen combat techniques, theater history, script analysis, and additional disciplines. Participants develop both fundamental understanding and hands-on skills, emerging as imaginative, cooperative, and technically skilled performers. With personalized guidance from faculty mentors, students progress through the program while gaining real-world experience by participating in eight fully staged productions annually across three unique performance venues. Additional opportunities include collaborations with the Houston Shakespeare Festival, UH's professional theater troupe.
Our structured four-year acting curriculum starts with establishing core performance principles, examining existing acting patterns, and cultivating varied ensemble training methods. Learners will analyze scripts and characters across multiple genres while implementing essential techniques during rehearsals and performances.
Boasting exceptional faculty and facilities, abundant performance and teaching opportunities, and proximity to Houston's vibrant arts community, the University of Houston's School of Theatre & Dance provides the perfect environment for acting studies. Within this program, you'll nurture your artistic passion in an inclusive, supportive setting while benefiting from affordable tuition and generous financial aid options to pave the way for a successful career.
