We maintain that actors require diverse artistic skills. The UHM Acting program provides dedicated students with access to an unparalleled variety of performance techniques from global traditions. Participants explore multiple theatrical forms: Stanislavski's approach for stage and screen, indigenous Hawaiian performance, movement arts, puppet theater, physical comedy, classical Shakespearean works, historical acting styles, vocal accents, theatrical fighting techniques, musical theater, collaborative creation, and numerous Asian performance arts like Japanese kabuki, kyogen, and noh; Chinese jingju and kunqu; plus Indonesian randai and wayang listrik. The program collaborates with Nursing students through HealthCAST's medical simulation training. Graduates gain distinctive insights into how these varied methods connect, overlap, and enhance live performance. No other institution offers the comprehensive theatrical education available through UHM's Acting program.
