The Mathematics Department at UH Mnoa provides MA and PhD programs in mathematics. Our faculty of approximately 20 members covers diverse specialties, offering guidance in algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, combinatorics, geometry, logic, number theory, and topology. You'll become part of a community of nearly 40 graduate students engaged in mathematical study and cutting-edge research. Our curriculum includes foundational and advanced graduate courses, plus rotating special topics courses shaped by faculty expertise and student interest. The department features an active lounge space that fosters collaboration and discussion among mathematicians.
The MA program consists of two key elements: completing coursework and developing a master's project with both written and oral components.
During this two-to-three year program, you'll take introductory and advanced graduate courses while having flexibility to tailor your academic journey. Around the midpoint, you'll select an advisor to guide you through your final project, which involves both written documentation and a formal presentation.
