The Asian Studies Department provides two master's degree programs: the Master of Arts in Asian Studies (MAAS) and the Master's in Asian International Affairs (MAIA), along with Graduate Certificates in Asian Studies and specific regional studies covered by SPAS area centers. The program emphasizes an interdisciplinary area studies approach, enabling students to employ diverse academic perspectives for a comprehensive understanding of Asia or its distinct cultural and geographical regions. These Graduate Certificate programs are open to all graduate students enrolled at UH Manoa.

Qualification Requirements

To be eligible, an applicant must hold or expect to hold prior to matriculation a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or an equivalent degree from a recognized non-U.S. institution of higher education.
