This program equips you with the skills needed to teach in elementary classrooms, with a special focus on multilingual students. After finishing, you'll qualify for initial teacher certification covering kindergarten through sixth grade (K-6) general education, along with endorsements in Elementary K-6 Education and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). EEML graduates are recognized as highly competent educators, ready for roles in general elementary teaching, language support positions, or international education settings.
The EEML curriculum blends instructional methods with hands-on fieldwork, prioritizing placements in Hawaii Public Schools that serve diverse multilingual student populations. Participants must complete 12 credits of specialized coursework focused on teaching multilingual learners (MLLs). During their final year, candidates will take the ESOL Praxis exam to earn dual certification.
