Our approach to percussion education embraces inclusivity at its core. Hartt students explore solo performances, chamber music, orchestral works, improvisation, drum-set techniques, and percussion instruments from diverse cultures, including Africa, the Middle East, Cuba, Brazil, and Trinidad. We regularly bring in specialized guest instructors to enhance our conventional curriculum. This comprehensive training has enabled Hartt percussion graduates to secure diverse professional opportunities nationwide. The Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) program cultivates well-rounded musicians by blending exceptional artistry with academic rigor. Each curriculum prepares students for elite careers in performance, teaching, or composition. Typically requiring at least two years beyond a master's degree, the DMA program mandates full-time residency during the first year with a minimum of 9 credits per semester. Students may begin with one summer session before residency. All DMA requirements must be fulfilled within seven years of enrollment.
