Our bachelor's program in elementary education equips you for a fulfilling teaching career in grades 1-6. From the very start of our undergraduate education offerings, you'll begin crafting your professional portfolio while engaging in hands-on fieldwork at local schools during your first semester. As an elementary education major, you'll pursue a subject area specialization, choosing from any discipline available at the University of Hartford or opting for an interdisciplinary behavioral studies concentration.
Practical classroom experiences are woven throughout our professional education curriculum, reflecting our dedication to helping students apply educational theories in real-world settings. These clinical experiences commence during the initial semester of the elementary education program.
The professional curriculum features progressively intensive teaching responsibilities through clinical placements. The program culminates with two comprehensive clinical components: a full semester of integrated professional practicum followed by a full semester of student teaching in public schools. Graduates who complete the elementary education requirements, pass the edTPA, and meet state assessment standards qualify for Connecticut teaching certification for grades 1-6.
