As a printmaking student, you'll gain both technical expertise and artistic guidance while honing essential critical analysis abilities to grow as a professional print artist. Since printmaking builds upon drawing fundamentals, the program strengthens your drawing and composition skills alongside print techniques. The curriculum covers core methods with required proficiency in lithography and etching, teaching both monochromatic and color techniques across all mediums. Students can explore additional printmaking disciplines like relief printing, monotypes, letterpress, and book arts. Your studies culminate in a senior showcase and equip you for either graduate studies or a professional path in printmaking. The program is enriched by lectures, demonstrations, and workshops featuring renowned guest artists and master printers, notably the yearly Hartford Print Workshop where visiting artists collaborate with students to produce editioned prints in HAS studios.
