The Department of Entomology provides diverse academic courses and research opportunities for students pursuing a Master of Science (MS) degree. As a crucial branch of biology, entomology addresses how insects damage about one-third of our food supply while also transmitting disease-causing pathogens responsible for widespread parasitic illnesses. Conversely, insects play essential roles as pollinators for over 60% of flowering plants, contribute to soil enrichment, and serve as key elements in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
We aim to prepare students for careers in government, academia, or private industry by offering comprehensive training in insect biology. Our department's programs cover biological systems at every scale, from molecular processes to entire ecosystems. Key research focuses include Biological Control, Ecology, Molecular Entomology, Systematics/Taxonomy, and Vector Biology. The MS program combines coursework with original thesis research. We are committed to fostering student growth and maintaining excellence in their research output and publications.
