The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication provides two advanced degree options for those pursuing academic or professional paths: a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy.
The M.A. curriculum focuses on combining mass communication theory with research methodologies, analytical skills, and strategic thinking, equipping students for careers in fields like advertising, journalism, media studies, public relations, and telecommunications, or for continued academic pursuits.
Both master's and Ph.D. candidates start their programs in the fall. Selection considers undergraduate GPA, GRE scores, personal statements, recommendation letters, along with relevant professional background and academic achievements.

Qualification Requirements
It is not necessary to have a JMC degree. Many of our students hold degrees in other areas from the humanities to the physical sciences but do quite well in our program. We look seriously at the Statement of Purpose for information about your experiences, motivations, and career goals
Upload the following items to the Graduate School: (1) application and (2) all transcripts (from every institution of higher learning at which you were enrolled, for even one course). All non-native language applicants are also required to submit official TOEFL scores.
(3) Three letters of recommendation (completed via email after you submit your recommenders email addresses. Ph.D. candidates should submit 3 former professors as recommenders), and (4) and a Statement of Purpose (SOP). The SOP should tell us who you are, why you want to enter one of our degree programs, and where you want to go in life with your Grady degree.
We do not accept GMAT or LSAT scores for entrance to any of our programs. As of January 2021, GRE scores are not required to apply for a master's degree program
Minimum TOEFL score requirement: overall score of 80 with at least 20 on speaking and writing
Minimum IELTS score requirement: overall band-width of 6.5, with no single band (score) below 6.0
