Our philosophy PhD program provides extensive coverage across all key disciplines. The curriculum incorporates diverse methodologies such as historical research, phenomenological inquiry, linguistic examination, and logical reasoning, with particular expertise in metaphysics, ethics, political theory, and philosophy of consciousness.
As part of the University of Georgia's Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, our Philosophy Department provides complete undergraduate studies culminating in an A.B. degree, along with both terminal M.A. and Ph.D. options. We collaborate with three interdisciplinary initiatives, publish a scholarly journal, and maintain a vibrant seminar series.
Our graduate program delivers thorough instruction in fundamental philosophical domains while enabling specialization in students' chosen fields. Faculty expertise spans historical research, linguistic deconstruction, logical methodologies, and phenomenological approaches. While encouraging individual research interests, we particularly excel in metaphysical studies, normative and political philosophy, epistemology, and philosophy of cognition. The PhD curriculum ensures comprehensive foundational training alongside focused study opportunities. Applicants to the doctoral program should possess substantial background in philosophical history. Selective admissions foster meaningful mentorship, and pedagogical training forms a core component of doctoral education.
