The Department of Horticulture provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Teaching and research initiatives cover ornamental horticulture, floriculture, as well as fruit, vegetable, and nut crop cultivation. Specialization options encompass plant breeding, physiology, developmental biology, biotechnology, postharvest studies, nutrition, biochemistry, integrated pest management, weed science, water management, crop production, and product applications. With approximately 40 faculty members across Athens, Tifton, Griffin, and other statewide locations, the department offers extensive resources. Graduate students have access to three modern Experiment Stations, the State Botanical Garden, and multiple field research centers representing Georgia's diverse climates. The department maintains robust interdisciplinary collaborations with other university units and partners with three federal research laboratories.
