The Doctor of Musical Arts in performance curriculum encompasses five key components: performance as the primary focus, a secondary concentration area, studies in music history and theory, higher education in music, and research. Students can choose their secondary concentration from any available major field options not selected as their primary focus, or from music theory or musicology/ethnomusicology disciplines.
The program requires a minimum of two continuous semesters of full-time study (completing at least 20 credit hours of consecutive coursework listed in the degree plan) while residing at the University of Georgia campus. Note that credits applied toward another degree cannot be counted toward fulfilling this program's requirements.
