The Yale School of Music's oboe program provides comprehensive instruction in solo, ensemble, and orchestral playing, along with specialized studies in reed crafting and teaching methods. Students receive one-on-one coaching while participating in regular group sessions, with an emphasis on expanding their musical horizons through diverse works spanning from Baroque to modern compositions. Beyond solo performances, oboists engage in chamber music collaborations, a cornerstone of the Yale musical curriculum. They also perform with multiple ensembles, including the New Music New Haven series and the school's premier orchestra, the Yale Philharmonia, gaining exposure to extensive repertoire under the guidance of renowned visiting conductors.

Qualification Requirements
D.M.A. applicants are required to submit supplementary materials in addition to the items listed above, including a significant sample of past scholarly writing on a musical or non-musical topic (5-20 pages) and seven short answer questions, including your present career plans and reasons for pursuing admission to the D.M.A. program. Letters of recommendation (3)- Letters should be written by teachers, mentors, or advisors with knowledge of your abilities as a musician, and submitted as part of the online application.
