Students accepted into the Honors Program who have academic passions in arts and humanities that don't align with existing departmental majors in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences can opt for a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS).
UGA's IDS program demands careful preparation from students, involving close collaboration with the IDS program director from an early stage. This major isn't intended for those who've simply sampled various subjects or struggle to choose a focus, but rather for those with a deliberate, structured academic plan that fulfills specific personal goals.
The curriculum requires at least 24 semester hours of interconnected coursework across two or more disciplines, with at least one discipline from Franklin College. The degree culminates with a 3-credit Senior Thesis focused on a topic of the student's choosing.
