The TESOL & World Language Education Program provides a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) for undergraduates. This program equips students to instruct modern, classical, and Less Commonly Taught Languages from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, leading to T-4 (initial) certification for teaching in Georgia's public schools.
During the 1998-99 academic year, the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents released "Principles for the Preparation of Educators for the Schools." This policy requires University of Georgia teacher educators to ensure their graduates meet quality standards in teacher preparation programs. Consequently, participants in the Foreign Language Education Initial Certification Program must review, deliberate on, and endorse a Quality Assurance Contract. This agreement outlines professional conduct standards, support measures from faculty and graduate assistants for struggling candidates, and potential repercussions for non-compliance. Fulfilling this contract demonstrates both your capability to achieve the program's educator development objectives and your dedication to being a responsible member of both school communities and the broader teaching profession.
