Our Department provides graduate studies culminating in M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Botany and Zoology, featuring research concentrations spanning ecology, evolution, behavior, developmental biology, comparative and environmental physiology, molecular biology, neurobiology, genetics, and phylogenetics. Our research scope extends from genomic-scale investigations to ecosystem-level analyses. Active studies occur in diverse terrestrial and aquatic habitats across tropical to subpolar regions, examining various organisms. The program incorporates both laboratory experiments and field research alongside theoretical approaches within our specialized fields.
Faculty and students prioritize fundamental and interdisciplinary research—bridging organizational scales from molecules to global systems—while connecting theory with empirical evidence through statistical and mathematical methods. Natural history observations inform the creation and evaluation of robust conceptual models. Numerous faculty members also explore practical applications of foundational science in areas like conservation biology, ecotoxicology, and human health.
