The University of Florida's Composition Program draws global students with its world-renowned faculty and abundant performance chances for student works. Rooted in technological tradition, today's program thrives through diverse approaches, equally valuing both traditional and electronic composition. Students can pursue D.M.A. or Ph.D. degrees, with generous fellowships and assistantships offered to eligible candidates.
UF provides extensive performance and recording possibilities primarily organized by students, who have the freedom to select professional artists and groups. The 2021-22 season featured distinguished guests like the JACK Quartet, Irvine Arditti, Ensemble dal Niente, Ekmeles, Sputter Box, Apply Triangle, Docl Reed Quintet, and Quince Ensemble. Students also compete for valuable large ensemble showcases, collaborating with groups such as the University Symphony Orchestra, UF Bands, Jazz Bands, and New Music Ensemble.
