The OU School of Music's mission is to foster academic growth, innovative instruction, research, and community engagement. Both faculty and students will champion educational excellence, push boundaries in performance and scholarship, and strengthen the music field through active participation in global professional organizations. Founded in 1903 as OU's second academic school, it has held NASM accreditation since 1931. As Oklahoma's sole music institution offering doctoral programs, it impacts communities through the creative and intellectual contributions of its members. OU grants music degrees across disciplines including composition, pedagogy, music history, performance, and theory. While honoring its heritage, the School continuously adapts its curriculum to equip students for a dynamic, multicultural world.
